Note: I currently don't have a video guide dedicated solely to Adventure Mode leveling. I'm in the process of making one, but a few leveling changes are still bugged, and I'm waiting to see what Blizzard does about the overpowered Thaldraszus questline showcased in my 60-70 World Record run.

In the meantime, I've updated parts of this guide to account for changes made to the early sections of route. While there are a few more routing adjustments I'll be making in the future, I don't want to update that within the guide until everything else has been fixed. For now, you can watch the speedrun linked above if you want a sneak peek at what the questing route will look like in the future.

Where/How to Start Dragonflight

  • If you didn’t complete the questline during the Dragonflight pre-patch, you’ll first be directed to Ebyssian in Orgrimmar or Wrathion in Stormwind. They’ll task you with flying around your respective capital city in order to gather NPCs for your faction’s expedition. Both quests take roughly 2 minutes to complete, and the Orgrimmar one will direct you towards the zeppelin tower outside of the city, while the Alliance questline directs players towards the Stormwind Docks.
  • Once you arrive at the tower or docks, an NPC standing nearby will display a timer that indicates how long it will take for the next ship to arrive. After picking up the next quest here, wait for the Zeppelin/Boat to arrive, and then ride it to the Dragon Isles.
  • If the timer indicates that the ship won't arrive for 3+ minutes, it is slightly faster to return to your city's portal room, take the portal to Valdrakken, and then fly over to the Waking Shores. Ultimately it doesn't make a major difference whether you choose to wait for the ship or fly there yourself.
  • After your enter the Dragon Isles, make sure to spend all of your Dragonriding Glyphs. If you have not done so already, I'd recommend unlocking all of them on your main character before leveling alts, as the glyphs make Dragonriding significantly more efficient.

Profession Leveling (Levels 60-61)

  • Early on during the questing process, you can obtain a full level's worth of experience by completing multiple first-time crafts with Dragonflight professions. The maximum number of times you can get experience from a first-craft bonus is 30, and you can achieve this by getting to ~50 skill with a single profession or leveling multiple at the same time.
  • The best time to complete these crafts is during certain roleplay quests within Wingrest Embassy, which is a town that you'll reach shortly after entering the Waking Shores. This will be mentioned during the next section of the guide, which goes over the optimal route through Waking Shores.
  • In my runs, I prefer to get all of my bonus experience by leveling a single profession, so that's what I'll be showcasing in this guide. I'll also be using Blacksmithing as the example, but you can do the same thing with any crafting profession (Tailoring, Leatherworking, etc).
  • While I'd generally recommend picking the profession with the cheapest materials, keep in mind that material costs fluctuate, so it's impossible to get an exact list of the cheapest combinations. Expect to spend somewhere in the 10-15k range, no matter which professions you pick.
  • Also, before you begin leveling your profession, I'd recommend buying an Ultimate Gnomish Army Knife off the Auction House. This is the easiest way to make sure that you have every profession tool accounted for.
  • While many people think that you should wait until level 69 to complete the profession crafts, it doesn't actually matter that much. The first time crafts give a fixed amount of experience, meaning you aren't gaining any extra by waiting until the final level. Getting your crafts out of the way early on allows your alts to equip Level 61 Crafted Gear ASAP, and it also saves time to complete this process while waiting on roleplay.
  • Here is a sample shopping list that I use for getting 30 first-time craft bonuses with Blacksmithing:
  • Before starting Dragonflight, make sure to stop by the Auction House in Orgrimmar or Stormwind to pick up the necessary materials. Also, material quality does not matter at all for leveling, so buy whichever rank is the cheapest.
  • If you feel like spending extra gold, you can also pick up a few bonus profession quests within Wingrest Embassy. Starting these quests will require you to learn the associated profession, but you can then abandon the profession and keep the quest. The profession quests and their associated materials are as follows:

Waking Shores (Levels 61-64)

  • After entering the Waking Shores, you should fly all the way to the north-eastern section of the zone where the boats/zeppelins arrive from Stormwind and Orgrimmar, respectively. If you land at the dock where the ships arrive you'll immediately get credit for riding them, meaning you don't *actually* need to ride the ships to shore.
  • From here, continue following the Campaign quests until you reach Wingrest Embassy. Upon reaching this town, you'll be prompted to select a zone, but it will always be faster to continue through the Waking Shores, since you're already there. That being said, it's actually possible to pick up all four breadcrumb quests at the same time by interacting with the map, which will give you a small amount of bonus experience later on in the leveling run.
  • While in Wingrest Embassy you should also complete every available side quest. Sendrax has a lot of long RP speeches, allowing you to kill two birds with one stone by completing quests as she drones on about dragons or w/e. As previously mentioned, this is also a good time to complete your profession leveling. Refer to the previous section for more information about that.
  • You will continue to follow the Campaign Questline (and ONLY the Campaign Questline) until you reach Scalecracker Keep. Within this area, you can kill the rare mob Dragonhunter Igordan while finishing the other campaign quests. Dragonflight rares are easy to kill and give solid experience, so they're worth fighting if they don't require taking a significant detour.
  • You should also complete the bonus objective within this area, even if it requires killing a few more mobs than the campaign quests require. As a rule of thumb, you should ALWAYS complete any nearby bonus objectives unless my guide EXPLICITLY tells you not to do so.
  • While completing the quest to heal red drakonids, you can stop and complete the “Fighting Fire With… Water” side quest at the nearby cave, since it's fast and directly along the path.
  • When you reach the Life-Binder Conservatory subzone, keep an eye out for the rare Firava the Rekindler which patrols around the area. You should fight and kill him for bonus experience.
  • On the quest where Sendrax finally stops talking, using any movement items will cause you to drop the dragon egg. The one exception to this is Gunshoes, which you can use ahead of time before picking up the egg, allowing you to quickly zip your way over to the turn in point. Ignore the nearby side quest “A Two for One Deal”, as it takes too long to complete for the amount of experience it gives.
  • Upon reaching the Ruby Life Pools, speak to Lifecaller Tzadrak and set your hearthstone there. This will be important later. If you picked up the bonus profession quests mentioned during the previous section, you can speak to Haephesta within this area to turn everything in.
  • After finishing the quests at Skytop Observatory and interacting with the Dragon ferry for the quest, you can use your hearthstone to quickly return to the Ruby Life Pools.
  • Within the next area, you can find two rare mobs, Terillod the Devout and Klozicc the Ascended. Make sure you kill them while completing the Campaign quests. Make sure you pick up the Ruby Life Pools Dungeon Quest, as this will be important later on.
  • Upon reaching the quest “Taking the Walls”, you should only fly on Wrathion's back only for the initial flight onto the ramparts. It's significantly faster to travel to other ballistae by using Dragonriding.
  • After receiving the quest “Black Wagon Flight”, you should abandon Waking Shores and head to Ohn'ahran Plains. Before you leave, make sure you grab the Neltharus Dungeon Quest, which is offered by an NPC at the Obsidian Citadel.
  • You should now have access to half of the available dungeon quests: Halls of Infusion, Ruby Life Pools, Neltharus, and Uldaman (which is given to you upon entering the instance). At this point I'd recommend queuing for Random Dragonflight Dungeons in an attempt to fish for one of these four dungeons.

Ohn’ahran Plains (Levels 64-67)

  • Upon reaching the entrance to Ohn'ahran plains, speak to Ambassador Taurasza in order to being the campaign quests. After a few minutes, you'll reach a quest hub called Timberstep Outpost. While here, pick up and complete the side quests “Sole Supplier” and “Thieving Gorlocs”. Complete all of the follow-up quests in this chain until you return to Timberstep Outpost. Ignore the side quest “Nergazurai”, as it isn’t efficient.
  • When completing the quest “Connection to Ohn’ahra”, which tasks you with gathering duck feathers, make sure that you right click on the ducks to pluck the feathers, rather than killing them outright.
  • Upon reaching Maruukai, complete the side quest “Orientation: Maruukai”, as it's extremely fast and efficient.
  • After you reach the town of Teerakai, set your hearthstone here by speaking to Hearthkeeper Atahl. Within this town, pick up the quests “Up to No-khud” and “WANTED: Mara’nar the Thunderous”.
  • Shortly after the campaign directs you to leave Teerakai, you should complete “Up to No-khud” along with the immediate follow up quest, “Return to Mender”. All other quests in this chain should be skipped, as they’re not efficient.
  • When you’re told to complete quests in Ridgewater Retreat, keep an eye out for the rare Eaglemaster Niraak and make sure to kill her for a chunk of bonus experience if she's around.
  • Similarly, when you reach Windsong Rise, make sure to kill the rare Prozela Galeshot. Another rare named Windseeker Avash has a chance to spawn here, but unlike Prozela Galeshot his respawn timer isn't instant, so he may not always be active.
  • During the quest “With the Wind at Our Backs”, you’ll be told to take a flight on a green dragon named Gerithus. However, you get full credit for the flight the moment you hop on his back, so you can quickly dismount aftwards. From here you can fly towards the quest objective of “WANTED: Mara’nar the Thunderous”, and you should land just short of that area in order to kill the rare Skaara. From here, fly down the nearby cliff and kill Mara’nar to finish the aforementioned quest. You can now proceed to Shady Sanctuary and continue the campaign.
  • While in Shady Sanctuary, speak to Gracus and complete the entire quest chain starting with “Some Call Me Bug Catcher”
  • A bit southwest of this area you’ll find the Lilac Ramble subzone. Complete the entire quest chain starting with “Find Theramus”, and kill the two rares Ripsaw the Stalker and Territorial Coastling.
  • After completing the quest “Starve the Storm”, take a detour to the back of the cave and kill the rare Ty’foon the Ascended.
  • When completing the final quest of the zone, “Renewal of Vows”, you’ll have to pick the correct dialogue options out of a list of three. The right answers are “a trophy from her first hunt”, “an eagle feather”, and “offer blood”. After completing this quest, make sure to pick up the Nokhud Offensive Dungeon Quest, and you should then use your hearthstone in order to return to Teerakai. While here, make sure to hand in the quest “WANTED: Mara’nar the Thunderous”, and then fly towards the next campaign quest.

The Azure Span (Levels 67-70)

  • At the start of Azure Span, you'll be directed towards Camp Antonidas. On your way there, stop at Khuri’s Fishing Spot and complete the side quest chains for “Arcane Detection” and “WANTED: Gorger”. Ignore the quest that tells you to fish.
  • After completing the initial campaign quests in Camp Antonidas, pick up and complete the side quests “WANTED: Frigellus” and “Setting the Defense”. You can also grab the breadcrumb quest “Path to Nowhere”, which you'll be handing in later on. You should also speak to Arcanist Tysha and set your Hearthstone to Camp Antonidas.
  • When completing quests in the Azure Archives, take a slight detour to kill the nearby rare mob, Forgotten Creation.
  • Follow the campaign until you reach Iskaara, and many sure to kill any rare mobs that you encounter along the way. Within this town, you’ll be completing the following quest chains: “WANTED: Krojek the Shoreprowler”, “Scampering Scamps”, “Orientation: Iskaara”, “The Weave of a Tale”, “Nook News”, and “Rowie”
  • The quest “Nook News” is a breadcrumb that directs you towards the Whaler’s Nook subzone. While here, you should complete the questline up until you reach “No Dwarf Left Behind”. Upon reaching this quest, abandon the subzone and return to Iskaara.
  • When you receive the campaign quest “Azure Alignment”, you should stop following the campaign and take a detour to the Falling Water subzone, which can be found on the northwestern edge of the zone. Complete every single quest within this subzone. Once you’re finished, you can use your hearthstone to return to Camp Antonidas.
  • At this point you should complete the side questlines in Camp Nowhere, Lost Ruins, Snowhide Camp, and Theron’s Watch, in that order. If you still haven't managed to reach level 70 after finishing all of these subzones, your best bet is to spam random dungeons in order to complete your remaining dungeon quests. While you do this, you can also fly around Thaldraszus and hunt rare mobs for easy experience.

Some Closing Thoughts

As mentioned at the beginning of this guide, Blizzard will likely include a small leveling revamp in one of the upcoming major patches, as this is something they do in every expansion. For starters, we can expect heirlooms to receive new tokens which allow them to scale up to Level 70, and it's possible we'll get a new form of invasions or experience potions. When this happens, I'll do a few testing runs and update this guide with my findings, and I plan to also create a detailed video guide which covers all of this information.

Also, it's worth noting that Adventure Mode is fairly open ended by its very nature, meaning it's entirely possible that I've missed a side quest/rare/etc that could be useful in the leveling guide. That being said, I've run this route a ton of times by now, and I'm extremely confident in its efficiency. Though it may receive tweaks in the future, I don't expect them to amount to any significant time difference compared to the current route.

Lastly, I will atleast acknowledge here that Brackenhide Hollow/Nokhudon Hold Boosting is a thing that exists. Yes, it's faster than questing, but only by ~1-2 hours at peak efficiency (aka, if you have geared boosters killing things for you). I won't dive too deep into the merits of buying a boost, but I personally don't believe it's worth spending ~200k gold to save 2 hours of time. Some people will argue that it's easier since it can be done while fully AFK, but god damn that's lazy. Oh, and while some people have suggested that leeching off of boosting groups as a solo player is worth doing, I personally find this suggestion laughable. At that point you're not only forced to spend time shard hopping in order to find a good group, but you're also forced to actively participate in tagging the mobs, rendering the AFK arguement obsolete. With that strategy you're unlikely to even outpace my guide, and you're forced to spend infinitely more effort chasing around other players and sniping tags.
